The Public Protector, Mrs. Caroline Sokoni and United Nations in Zambia Resident Coordinator, Ms. Beatrice Mutali today held a stakeholder engagement meeting to foster and enhance collaboration in the promotion of the rule of law and public administration.

Speaking during the meeting, Mrs. Sokoni said her office was seeking to collaborate with the United Nations systems in order to enhance investigations of maladministration in Public Institutions, and the implementation of its mandate.

She noted that to strengthen the Ombudsman in Zambia, her Office requires capacity in enhancing and strengthening some systems on the promotion of accountability and transparency in public service delivery as well as creating extensive awareness campaigns and community education on issues of maladministration.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Resident Coordinator, Ms. Beatrice Mutali said the work of the Office of the Public Protector as an Ombudsman Institution is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework in Zambia for 2023 – 2027 which adheres to key programming principles that include human rights, gender equality and womenโ€™s empowerment, sustainability and resilience and accountability.

She expressed happiness at the establishments of desks for women, children, the aged and person with disabilities as an action which speaks to the principles of the United Nations.

Ms. Mutali called for more engagements between the Office of Public Protector and United Nations agencies in Zambia in order to identify and have a deeper understanding of mutual areas to collaborate on.
