Disability Rights Watch Board Chairperson, Hon. Joseph Munsanje today 10th March, 2023 paid a courtesy call on the Public Protector in order to discuss matters relating to the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) recently signed between the two institutions.

Speaking when the Board Chairperson called on her, the Public Protector Mrs. Caroline Sokoni said the office of the Public Protector is committed to see to it that the welfare of people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups is protected as they seek services from public institutions.

Mrs. Sokoni informed Hon. Munsanje that in an effort to take services of the Public Protector closer to the people, the institution is in the process of decentralizing to six provinces this year.

The Public Protector added that the decentralizing of the institution to the provinces will enable the office to be more visible and accessible to the people it was established for. She has since called upon stakeholders such as members of parliament to support the institution as it endeavors to provide oversight on public administration and redressing complaints of maladministration in the public sector.

She has also appealed to members of the general public to report any acts of maladministration they might encounter in their quest to seek public services.

Meanwhile, Hon. Munsanje who is also Mbabala Constituency Member of Parliament, said he was elated with the strides the office of Public Protector was putting in place in order to serve the members of public.

The law maker reaffirmed Disability Rights Watch’s commitment to protect the welfare of the people with disabilities through working with the Office of the Public Protector.

Hon. Munsanje said in his capacity as a law maker, he will continue to lobby government and other stakeholders to support the institution in order for it to operate to its full potential.
